Welcome to Laurel

Capital of the Pine Belt

A Mississippi historical treasure

Located deep in the Pine Belt, Laurel was established in 1882 at the height of the Lumber industry's growth.

Laurel is the second county seat of Jones County, famously known as the "Free State of Jones". Jones county itself is named after the defiant Revolutionary War Naval commander John Paul Jones who famously exclaimed "I have not yet begun to fight!" when the British commander demanded his surrender. This perfectly encapsulates the swagger and spirit of Laurel's residents. A people who wish to live their lives out how they see fit.

Come visit this historically rich land and, if you're willing to look, you'll find the rich history of a proud people.

From art musuems to haunted houses to lush picturesqe forests, everything tells a story.
